The Ft. Lauderdale “Stand-Up For The Pets” paddle board event will raise funds and awareness for inoculating, spaying and neutering Broward County pets that are in need of treatment but are unable to see a Veterinarian due to limited financial resources. Stand-Up For A Cause will provide those treatments to owners of animals in Broward County – at no charge.
The October 26 Stand-Up For The Pets flat-water event will be held on the Middle River at George English Park. The day will begin with paddle board classes and clinics, with tips and demonstrations from Florida’s top paddle board professionals.
Christine Murphy from Train 4 Life will demonstrate how to yoga on a paddle board, and give a full class of stretching, exercises and yoga poses that participants can practice from their paddle boards in the calm lagoon at George English Park.
Pro paddle board racing athletes like Catherine Uden will give a class on race training and advanced paddle boarding techniques to teach aspiring paddle board racers the skills and strategies used by the pros.
Paddlers can then join the pack for a 90 minute float down the Middle River, with pet owners, their pets, and all others. This 2.6 mile scenic course will guide paddlers through the canals of Ft. Lauderdale to discover the local ecosystem, and the many beautiful homes along the waterway.
Legendary surfer and board shaper Juan Rodriguez has donated a custom designed, hand finished stand-up paddle board for the cause. The board will be raffled-off and given to one lucky winner (the winner does not need to be present to win). The proceeds of the raffle will pay for free Veterinarian care for Broward County pets, in 2013.
Everyone is invited, with or without pets. All those who want to attend can bring their pets, kayak, canoe or paddle board, or just come alone and hang-out by the water. It will be a fun day of water-sports, exciting activities and social interactions for pets, their owners and their new friends.
Donors who give $45 will be registered to attend the October 26 Stand-Up For The Pets day and receive a silicone sports bracelet, a Stand-Up For The Pets t-shirt and a raffle ticket to possibly win a paddle board. The t-shirts, bracelet and a thank you letter will be sent to anyone who donates to the cause but does not attend the event in person. Donors of $25 will receive an entry ticket to the paddle board raffle, but no t-shirt or bracelet. Click HERE for more details.
All proceeds of the Stand-Up for the Pets event will be used to cover the direct medical costs of spaying, neutering and inoculating animals in Broward County that are in need of treatment but are unable to afford a Veterinarian. Dr. Darko of the Animal Wellness Clinic of Tamarac has offered his time and professional expertise to help Broward County pets, and their owners, and at no cost to anyone.
Stand-up paddlers without pets are also welcomed to participate to help promote our cause.

For more than 45 years, Juan Rodriguez has been shaping and building surfboards. This has allowed Juan to travel and surf waves all over the world in every type of condition imaginable. Because of this, Mr. Rodriquez understands how important equipment is and understands the difference between a good board and a bad one is in the details, something that is often overlooked by some.
One World SUPs have paid attention to the details, from the deck tie downs, air pressure valve, color combinations, glossing, and most importantly the shape. One World Paddle Boards are computer shaped and are an exact copy of my master shape, then hand finished. For lightness and durability, thermal vacuumed using epoxy resin, fiberglass cloth, and a high density layer of PVC over an EPS foam core.
One World makes a board that is light, strong, and with a proven shape that rides as good as it looks. Register for your raffle ticket today to win and help the pets. The winner will be drawn at the end of the event and he/she can take the board home , or it can be picked-up in Ft. Lauderdale anytime within the next month (or shipped, i shipping costs are paid by the winner). Read More
